A: During therapy sessions you are expected to be an active participant, both talking and listening, about the primary concerns of your life. The initial session, which includes an assessment, generally lasts 75 minutes. Subsequent sessions generally last 45 minutes. Usually weekly sessions are best, especially when initially engaging in the therapeutic process. Some people may require more than one individual/family session or may also require a group, individual, or family session within the same week as the primary therapy modality they are receiving. This is determined by need- crisis, extreme distress, or sudden changes that may develop or require being addressed. During the time between sessions it is beneficial to utilize the techniques discussed and process the information revealed. Therapy will not "work" if you are not willing to "do the work", both in and out of the therapy session.
